A video game is one that involves player or user interaction with a controller interface that generates a visual on a video screen. The various platforms for video games are video game consoles and personal computers. Lot of games exists for mainframe computers down to small hand-held PDA devices.The computer video games use the keyboard and mouse for the game play and a separate joystick with a single button could also be used to control the play.

The Concept of Video games was conceived and patented by Thomas T.Goldsmith Jr. and Estle Ray Mann in 1948. It was introduced to the public by 1958. The first one introduced is the William Higginbotham’s Tennisfor Two. In 1972 the Magnavox Odyssey was released and it was the first video game console available for the consumers.

There are various types or genres of video computer games available like Action, Action cum adventure, First-person shooter, Fighting, Role-playing, Platform, Simulators, Sports and Racing and Strategy games to name a few.

Education games that teach the young user from ages three to mid-teens are available. Notable games in this genre include Carmen sandiego series, Oregon Trail, Robocode and core war. The big companies cut costs and the individual get high performance.

Music games are a sort of arcade games that challenge the player to follow certain sequences of movement or develop specific rhythms using the keyboard.

The most vital benefit of video gaming is its entertainment and artistic contributions. Multimedia entertainment offers unique fusion of 3D, CG effects, artificial intelligence and sound effects and interactivity.  

Video games require a strong analytical ability as well as flexibility and adaptability as the players are navigating a highly complex systems with many variable parameters.
