The adventure games came into existence only in the late 1980s and early 1990s. They are considered to be most technically advanced and are suitable only for single players as heavy emphasis is laid on story and character.

As adventure games differ in their subject, interface and settings or plot, many different types are available. Text based, Graphical ones, RPG-like, Puzzle adventure and Japanese adventure games are some types of these games.
