Printers come in all shapes and sizes. While laser printers are best for producing speedy text documents, inkjet printers are suitable for photograph printing.
Multifunction printers are available for small businesses and home offices. They are all-in-one (AIO) printers that include copier, scanner, printer and fax capabilities. They are either laser printers or inkjet printers but the best ones are the flatbed scanners and auto document models for scanning, faxing and copying mutipage documents.
Personal laser printers, as the name suggests, are suitable for individual purposes to print text and simple graphics. They are usually monochrome printers but combine fast print speeds sharp output and low cost.
Workgroup laser could be used for small teams in large companies or small offices. They support printing over networks with faster processors and more memory to handle multiple jobs.
Inkjet printers could be used for general-purpose and photo inkjet. But these are slower compared to the laser printers.
Photo/Snapshot printers could be used to produce high-quality photos. These printers also use the inkjet technology but rely on Dye-Sublimation, which transfers color dye from a ribbon on to the paper in a series of passes followed by protective clear coating.
Portable Printers are lightweight printers that weigh anywhere between 2 to 5 pounds. They use color-inkjet-printing technology. These could be easily carried during a travel too.

- Paper handling
Resolution refers to the maximum number of dots per inch (dpi) that can be printed both horizontally and vertically. The higher the resolution the better the print quality.
Print speeds refer to pages or photos printer per minute (ppm). It’s not so simple to measure this.
Paper Handling specs include size and thickness of various papers and the input-output tray capacity. Higher end models have advanced features like duplexing, tabloid-size printing and auto document feeders for faxing.
