After an unsuccessful hunting day, his maids presented him with a stuffed bear with scraps of fine material. Later on when he did hut a bear, his daughter admired it saying “I will call it Teddy”. This name became familiar then on leading to the world’s most popular toy, the Teddy Bear.

Another story is that on a bear-hunting trip, Roosevelt’s attendants found and caught an old injured bear. But Roosevelt refused to kill the animal calling it “unsportsmanlike” and “Teddy’s Bear” was immediately publicized by political cartoonists.

The teddies are usually made with “fur” Mohair, shorn or combed from a long haired goats breed. They are woven into cloth, dyed and trimmed to produce bears. “Plush” is another synthetic fur used to make teddies.
